Enter any two of pace, time and distance, and the calculator finds the third. You'll also see your speed and projected finish times for common race distances.
Fill in any two of pace, time and distance, then press Calculate.
The running pace formula
Pace, time and distance are linked by one simple relationship — pace is just time divided by distance:
pace: pace = time ÷ distance (min per mile or km)
time: time = pace × distance
distance: distance = time ÷ pace
speed: speed = distance ÷ time (mph or km/h)
Worked example
You run 5 km in 25 minutes:
Pace: 25 min ÷ 5 km = 5:00 per km.
Per mile: ≈ 8:03 per mile.
Speed: 5 km in 25 min = 12 km/h ≈ 7.46 mph.
Race-distance splits
Once you know your pace, you can project finish times for standard races: 5K, 10K, half marathon (21.1 km / 13.11 mi) and marathon (42.195 km / 26.22 mi). The calculator lists these for your current pace so you can set realistic goals.
Tip: most runners can't hold their 5K pace over a marathon. As distance grows, pace naturally slows — use these projections as an upper bound and train for the specific distance.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate running pace?
Divide your time by the distance. Running 5 km in 25 minutes is a pace of 5:00 per kilometre (25 ÷ 5).
How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?
Multiply the per-km pace by 1.609. A 5:00/km pace is about 8:03 per mile, since a mile is 1.609 km.
Can it project my marathon time?
Yes — enter a pace and the calculator shows projected times for 5K, 10K, half and full marathon. Remember pace usually slows over longer distances, so treat them as optimistic.
What's the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per unit distance (minutes per mile); speed is distance per unit time (miles per hour). They're inverses — a faster runner has a lower pace but a higher speed.
