How volume conversion works

Every volume unit can be expressed in milliliters, so the converter turns the input into ml first, then into the target unit. This single base-unit step keeps any pair of units consistent:

in ml = amount × (ml per "from" unit) result = in ml ÷ (ml per "to" unit)

The US customary factors used are: 1 cup = 236.588 ml, 1 tbsp = 14.787 ml, 1 tsp = 4.929 ml, 1 fl oz = 29.574 ml, and 1 ml = 1 ml.

Worked example

Convert 1 cup to milliliters:

To ml: 1 × 236.588 = 236.588 ml.
To ml (target): 236.588 ÷ 1 = 236.59 ml.
Check: 1 cup also equals 16 tbsp or 48 tsp.
US vs metric cup: this tool uses the US customary cup of 236.6 ml. Many recipes elsewhere use a 250 ml metric cup, so confirm the standard before scaling a recipe precisely.

Is fluid ounces the same as weight ounces?

No. A fluid ounce is volume (≈29.57 ml); a weight ounce is mass (≈28.35 g). They differ for most ingredients, so this converter handles volume only.

Can I convert grams of flour with this tool?

Not directly — volume to grams depends on the ingredient's density. A cup of flour and a cup of sugar weigh different amounts.
